RE: Refrigerator fires probably very common...

My Norcold went up in flames last May and it was less than a year old. Only quick thinking by my wife saved the rig from completely going up. Just got it back from the dealer last week. Doug Dio you mind me asking what she did to save the rig? This is something I've thought about...the "what would I do if" scenario. Kind of a long story but will attempt to make it short. We live in a private RV park and keep our MH parked in our second lot and sometimes use it for a guest room. DW had gone over to fire up the fridge to put in some treats, turned on the fridge and heard a small explosion and saw smoke coming out around the sides of the fridge, rushed outside and while calling 911 turned off the gas at the tank and rushed around back where the fire was in the slideout. We just happened to have a hose hooked up to the water supply and she was able to put water on the fire immeadiately until the fire dept arrived. If we had been in a RV park I honestly think the whole rig would have gone up in flames. All damage was contained to the living room slide and no smoke damage internally. We were definitely lucky in that respect. Doug

RE: Greyhawk 33DS electricial issue

Though I would let ya'll know that the problem ended up being a blown fuse down in that area behind the driver's side kick panel. Doug

Greyhawk 33DS electricial issue

I have a problem with my 07 33DS that I and the dealer and Jayco have been trying to figure out. So I thought why not bring it up here and see is anyone has had anything simular. The levelers, rear camera display, and electric door locks do not work on their own. They will work if I hold in the AUX battery button. These are the only devices I know of at this time, there could be more. My feeling is these are all chassis battery powered and maybe there is a grounding or miswiring somewhere that is common to these devices only. The dash lights, radio, heater/AC, lights all work fine. I'm open for ideas Doug

RE: Shopping for a Super C

Other than the fluke fire we had in the fridge we love our super C. The main reason we switched from a fiver to the super c was that the DW can drive it and parking is so much easier, general ease of use, where we live the fiver was always a PITA to back in to it's parking spot. Doug

RE: Jayco recall

I got 2 recall notices in the mail today. One for the gas line under the front slide and another for the hanger straps on the exhaust. Hopefully this can be fixed in a timely manner...??? Got mine too. I am hoping to get this done when I have it in for the fire damage repair. I've made a list of items to be taken care of and faxed it to the dealer. Doug

RE: Had a fire yesterday

I just Googled your make and model and there is a recall for a liquid propane clamp in the slide scheduled for May 08. Hope this issue is being resolved to your satisfaction. Confirmed, this is Jayco's thinking also. I did find a crack in the gas adapter fitting inside the lower fridge compartment and have emailed a picture on to Jayco. As far as resolution, everything is moving along fine. The time of year for this to happen sucks but I guess that is life and at this time everyone involved is just happy that no one was hurt. Doug

RE: Had a fire yesterday

update. Looks like Jayco is going to cover this and the dealer is going to pick up the MH and do the work once the details are worked out. Jayco wants my insurance carrier to do a inspection and be the third party for any issues that may arise between me and Jayco. Doug

RE: Had a fire yesterday

Update, yes this a Norcold not Dometic and the rig is still under warrantee I talked to the dealer and emailed him some pictures that he is going to forward on to Jayco and will let Jayco decide what they want to do. So now it's a waiting game. I am a little nervous to the fact that I removed the dinette and replaced it with a couple recliners about 2 weeks ago and had to relocate a AC outlet. We have used the fridge and the outlet since and all tested fine so I know its not an issue but don't know how Jayco will look at that. Just now got a call from the dealer and they told me that Jayco will be calling me direct. Doug

Had a fire yesterday

DW went over to the MH yesterday to turn on the refridgerator, heard funny noises and smoke started coming out of the sides of the fridge, then a small explosion and flames shooting up the outside of the motorhome.DW called 911 and with the help of a neighbor was able to get the fire partially contained with a water hose before the fire department arrived. The fridge is in the slide that was extended so all damage is contained in the slide and no smoke damage internally. To make a long story short the fire dept thinks it was a faulty gas regulator in the fridge. We are now waiting for the claim adjuster. The MH is still under first year warrantee so I need to notify the dealer. Going to be along process I'm afraid and am thinking the slide is going to need to be replaced. I have taken pictures in case legal issues develope. Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated. Doug

RE: Trading a TT for Class C

We had 2 different fivers, the last being a 32' Alpenlite with 2 slides. Traded the truck and fiver in on a super C last summer and love it. In the process of getting a Jeep Liberty set up as a toad. DW can drive it too where the truck and fiver was just too much for her to manage. Doug

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

Doug H What are dimensions of your recliners? I would like to do this but have not seen chairs (not recliners) that will fit. Is your dinette in a slide? Please post puictures. Thanks Nick Nick, the recliners are Lazyboy, I think they are 33 inches wide. Yes the dinette is in the slide and the space is 72 inches wide. We swiped some carpet from under the couch to patch the open spaces after removing the dinette. Had to also move an ac outlet and cover up some wiring. I am hoping to find a small table to go between the recliners. I'll take some pictures and post when completed. Doug
